I'm pleased to introduce this local mom and her son to all of you. Get to know Julie and Nathan, Founders of Sokol Coffee Roasters in Longmeadow, a little better below!
1. What is your name? What is the name of your business?
Julie and Nathan Sokol, Sokol Coffee Roasters, www.sokolcoffeeroasters.com
2. What inspired/encouraged you to start your business?
As a parent of a special needs child, being in the kitchen is our favorite place. The fall of 2019 we wanted something to do as a family that could transfer into a productive and enjoyable business. Nathan is in his senior year of high school and this concept of roasting coffee beans inspired us along with his educational team. The adults in the family love drinking coffee and Nathan loves the process of roasting coffee beans. He is very meticulous with measuring and packaging. This has been an adventure exploring coffee “beyond the drive thru.”
3. What do you love about your work?
We love trying different regions of coffee from all over the world. Each region has its own unique character. Family time is the foundation as we play a role in providing for our customers. Next year in school the educational team is developing a vocational program that encompasses the coffee venture.
4. What advice do you have for others wanting to start a business?
Have fun pursuing your dream. Each and every person has a passion within them. No matter the ability, enjoy the adventure. Make connections in your community. The best referral is word of mouth. Your “story” is the impact.
5. What do you do to take care of yourself and how do you make time to do it?
Self care is so important. One cannot pour from an empty cup. As a mom, I enjoy quiet time reading. For Nathan, he loves his music. As a family, we love cooking in the kitchen. Home is our place of solitude.
6. What can we do to support you in the community?
Share Nate’s journey. Each customer brings happiness into our home. Every bag of coffee is made small batch, with intention. This gives Nathan purpose and opportunity in the business world of coffee. We have dreams of having a coffee truck and one day a coffee shop.
7. Favorite spot to go around town?
My favorite spot, Elsie’s Creamer at Randall’s Farm. They have the best peppermint stick ice cream. Nathan loves his video games, so his go to is Game Stop.
