My Name is Kelly & I Have a High Schooler

9th grade, Freshman Year, 1st Year...

It doesn't matter what you call it... my baby is almost finished! He'll be wrapping up his first year of high school this month! I'm proud of him. School, let alone high school, in a pandemic isn't easy to navigate.

He managed to make the Freshman Football Team and even had the chance to play in a JV game. He also tried out and made the Freshman Baseball Team. He had the opportunity to pitch a couple of times. He fell in love with studying Spanish and continued by joining the Spanish Club where he participated in fundraising events and connected to his Guatemalan heritage. He also joined the Future Business Leaders of America Club and sold a lot of popcorn! He wore his first suit and enjoyed his first semi-formal with friends. He went to the movies on a Friday night with his friends and the group chat has continued with funny texts.

He still loves to journal and draw and color. He re-read the Harry Potter series and a couple of other books. I believe he does better in his Honors classes vs. his other ones. I'm not exactly sure why but it may be the teachers or the environment or structure in one instead of the other.

He just turned 15. I can't wait to see what he does next!
